i had to goto the post office and the bank this morning. after that i stopped by the dobbs ferry hospital to pick up my uncle’s cell phone charger, he left it there. i stopped by my uncle’s apt after the hospital to drop off the charger along with his wallet and checkbook. i visited him for a bit and then headed home to pick up my discman and head to rockefeller park. it was a beautiful day and i didn’t want to waste it.
i got to the park at two forty five and didn’t bother to bring my map with me. i’ve been there so many times, i know which trail i wanted to take and i had it memorized. i wanted to check out my favorite spot and see how it’s changed from my last visit. i kept walking the path till i got to the peaceful path… which is ironically funny since it’s right next to the parkway. as i walked back to the lake i met the king or queen of the geese. this brook has gotten bigger as well and the flow of water has increased. i’ll keep checking it when i go, i want to see if it turns into a small river.
i decided to head to the stone bridge again, it’s a good walk and i wanted to exercise. along the way i saw a family of four walking and the son(who must have been five or so) decided for the family that they were going to live in rockefeller park. the small creek here was going to be his bath. i smiled to myself as they passed me, cause when i was his age i thought the same thing. i still do. i’d live to live in the woods.
the route i took was chilly and by the time i got to the bridge i was cold. i decided to walk around in the sun and warm up. as i was walking i decided to just stop.
i stopped and closed my eyes and listened to the sounds around me… the wind blowing… the two streams flowing… the birds singing. i turned to the sun and let it warm my face. i looked at the field before me and took it in. i looked up at the clouds and saw a dragon flying across the sky. i stood there for several minutes and enjoyed my solitude. nothing to distract me from the beauty of nature. i needed to just stop and take it all in.
when i felt relaxed, i decided to head back. i was getting hungry and i had a dinner planned. i was going to cook up string beans, broccoli raab and veggie steak strips for dinner. the idea of that dinner got my stomach growling and my mind thinking of food. i got a craving for celery with peanut butter and since i was going to the supermarket to buy the steak strips i added celery to my mental list.
walking back to my car, i saw two items of interest; the first was a spider. i haven’t seen a spider since i moved out of my parent’s house, weird huh? the second item was possibly the fin of the tommyknocker spaceship. i’d like to dig it, but i think the state park authorities would not approve.
when i got back to my car, it was four thirty. a good hour and a half walk
i spent easter with my uncle who made pasta with broccoli raab. it’s been a long time since i’ve had it and it was good.
it prompted me to try and make itself. you boil water, drop the broccoli raab in, cook it till its tender and then transfer it to a frying pan with olive oil, onion and garlic. what i like is i used the water to cook the pasta also.
the result… shiny deliciousness

*We* are the music makers… and *we* are the dreamers of dreams.
i’m writing this post on my laptop while i lie in bed. my typing on it has improved greatly.
thanks again brian
i’ve been trying to live by captain mal’s philosophy of “we work then we play”. a perfect example of that is when i have dishes in the sink. if i want to relax with a book, my computer or tv, i will wash the dishes first so they won’t be in the sink the next morning. i don’t like washing my coffee pot in the morning just so i can make coffee.
this past saturday i followed my capt’s orders and got my tax information and electric bill mailed out before i spent time playing guild wars.
it’s nice not having to worry about an errand to do while i’m relaxing.
today i spent easter with my uncle john. he made pasta with brocilirob. something i haven’t attempted to make myself or had since i moved out of my parent’s house. we spent the afternoon watching hook. when richie rich came on that was my cue to head home.
all in all a good three day weekend.
